Non-matching Bridesmaid Dresses

In the Philippines often the couple getting married provides for the clothes of the entire bridal party, especially the bridesmaid dresses.  Usually, matching dresses are custom-made. They can be uniform, or of the same fabric and color but of different styles:

In some cases, to save some money, couples provide the fabric and the bridesmaids take it to the dressmakers of their choice. They pay for their own dresses to be made.

It is fortunate that my grandmother is a seamstress so when my brother got married recently, all of the bridesmaids’ dresses were made by her:

However, it is not necessary that bridesmaid dresses match. In fact, by looking at the pictures below, you can see that non-matching, possibly store-bought dresses look just as great!

Just assign a color scheme to your bridesmaids and let them buy their own. Another good thing is that these bridesmaids can wear their dresses on other occasions as well. The dress I wore on my brother’s wedding will probably never get worn again.

Personally I fancy making my future bridesmaids dress up in little black dresses, or blood-red cocktail dresses. They can buy their own so they can pick out what they feel comfortable in.

But if you’re still interested in affordable, custom-made dresses for your bridesmaids, my grandma still makes ‘em! Contact me at katrina.carneo@yahoo.com .

Floating Flowers

On my visit to Sonya’s Garden in Cavite, I saw how the staff put to good use the flowers that have fallen off on their own. They were made to float on stone basins filled to the brim with water, and the result was impressive:

While most caterers in the Philippines already provide floral table centerpieces, additional floating flowers on will look good in your wedding reception venue. Glass receptacles make a good option, if stone basins aren’t available:

You can decorate your registration table with a glass receptacle with floating flowers.  You won’t have to use as many flowers as a typical centerpeice arrangements. Tealight candles can be added as well.

Candy Buffet

Candy buffets in weddings are gaining popularity, and putting up one in your reception area is simple and inexpensive.

Arrange for your caterer to provide an extra table with skirting to be used as your candy buffet table. A small one would do, because it’s easier to make it look like it’s overflowing with candy!

Collect all the clear jars or receptacles in your home, or your mom’s home, or borrow from friends. Cleaned-up mason jars that were used as containers for mayonnaise or sandwich spreads will do. It doesn’t matter if they are of different shapes or sizes—-that’s actually better!

You can also buy candy jars if you wish. I highly recommend going to Uniwide Warehouses, you’ll have a field day with the very cheap jars and scoopers you can find there.

There are some who rent out candy jars for this purpose. These 13 jars and scoopers are for rent:

Your candy buffet table need not be decorated much, the candies themselves are, pardon the pun, eye-candy! You can either stick with your color motif, or or choose sweets of various colors:

I was in Divisoria a month ago and there sweets can be bought by the kilo, at really, really low prices. I bought some sugar-coated gummy worms and pastillas when I was there. You can also buy marshmallows, chocolate chip cookies, candy-coated chocolates and many others.

You can also order chocolates of various shapes at Sokoleyt Madness.

Don’t forget to provide bags where guests can put their candies in:

There are some who offer candy buffet set-ups for about 3000 pesos. A Candy Corner booth can be rented for 4500. But guess what, you can order a customized candy buffet for as low as 1500! Contact me:

DIY: Jar Picture Holder

One day I was bored in the office and after I munched the last piece of candy I had in a small jar, I thought of using that same jar as a picture holder. I just lined the mouth of the jar with gold and turquoise ribbons, put the picture in, and voila:

Jars of various sizes will look good side by side, as you can see from this picture I got from the net:

I think the jar picture holders will make great table centerpieces, mixed with some flowers here and there.

Wedding Song: You and Me by DMB

Dave Matthews Band has got a lot of classic hits, and this one is a song I’d like to hear in my own wedding someday:

Wedding Cartoons

My brother who is quite adept at drawing made this cartoon of our mother and had it printed on a shirt which he gave to her:

As you can see, the drawing looked exactly like mom:

He then proceeded making cartoons of other members of the family. His blog, Buhay Call Center has many of his comic strips and his very accurate cartoon of himself.

Cartoons of the bride and groom can be cute on wedding invitations or favors. If you would like to have cartoons of yourselves made for your special day, send me an e-mail at katrina.carneo@yahoo.com .

Green Butterfly Wedding Invitation

Miley Cyrus’ song “Party in the USA” was stuck in my head so I made a wedding invitation with some of that song’s lyrics on it.

Invitation to be printed on photo paper. To order email me at katrina.carneo@yahoo.com.
